Bob Woodward’s State of Denial: Bush at War, Part III is an about face on the Bush administration and its reaction to counter terrorisim following the events of 9/11. From public deception to inefficient Dept. of Defense to the lovely Condi, the reporter employs a critical eye on the inner workings of an administration at war.
Brett Ratner’s X-Men The Last Stand closes out the mutant trilogy in decent action fun. While not as intelligent as Bryan Singer’s previous two installments, the third entry still provokes thought with the advent of a mutant antidote to “cure” the super friends. In addition, the Professor X evaporation scene and mean Jean Grey / Red Phoenix special effects are worth the price of entry.
While not as smart as Dawson’s Creek, the little home town drama that could musters high-school drama in an attractive package. Particularly of interest is the high school gunman episode ‘With Tired Eyes, Tired Minds, Tired Souls, We Slept’ and the season closer when Brooke slaps Peyton, Rachel steers a car into the river, and newlywed Nathan sinks in a limo.
In 20 Y.O., Janet (Miss Jackson if you’re nasty) drops it like it’s hot on a compilation of uptempo and slow groove tracks that have made the pop star an icon for two decades. New tracks like So Excited, Show Me, and Get It Out Me feature nods to the old with a comtemporary flair, while staples like With You, Daybreak, and Enjoy are easy listens on the breezy album.
NBC’s The Office Season Two DVD is a must-have for fans of the deadpan workplace comedy. Steve Carell is ridiculous as Dunder-Mifflin boss Michael Scott and co-workers Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer round out a top cast. Season Two extras like commentaries, Fake PSAs, and the Steve on Steve interview make it Blockworthy.
